Winter Concert Friday December 19th

The Washington International Chorus will present its winter concert on December 19th  2014 at 7:30 pm at the United Church of Christ (the German church) at 20th and G Sts NW.  This will be our first concert in which Joshua Brown will be conducting.  The concert is followed by a reception in the church social lounge.  The concert is free.  Donations are always welcome!

The chorus sings in many languages.  So far, the concert includes songs in French, German, Russian, Swedish, English, Latin, and Portugese.

The Washington International Chorus is open to anyone 18 and over who want to enjoy singing with a group.  We do not require auditions.  Prior singing experience is a plus but do not let that stop you from coming to a rehearsal on Tuesday evenings from 7-9 at the United Church of Christ at 20 and G Sts.  For more information call: 202-236-3743.

Yard Sale September 13th to support the chorus

Come to the Chorus Yard Sale for fun and profit!! Hang out with chorus friends - bring lemonade or soft drink or two and perhaps a snack.  Water will be available of course.  Wear a hat to keep off the sun.  There is some shade in the front yard.

Donate items to the Chorus Yard Sale to be held September 13th at 11122 Nicholas Dr., Silver Spring MD 20902.  Sale begins at 8 am and runs until 4 pm.  Please bring items in the morning early and stay to help us sell.

If you can bring a card table and a chair or two that will help our displays.

We have a rolling clothes rack so bring clothes on hangers if at all possible.  But we will display shorts, tees, etc on a table.  It will help to put the size on a sticker or a sign on the hanger. Hats will work.  Old shoes need to have the size attached.  They still need to look reasonably good.

If you bring books, they should be in reasonably good shape.  Very strange items from your shelves just may sell - all of Becky's french novels sold last year for instance.

Kids and grown-ups love costume jewelry.

Please wash items for display.  If anything is electric, it has to work.

If anything weighs more than 20 pounds, be prepared to come back and haul it away if it doesn't sell!!

All unsold items will go to Goodwill or the Friends of the Library.

If any items is questionable, call Caroline to consult - 202-236-3743

Fall rehearsals begin Tuesday September 9, 2014

Welcome to the Fall season of the Washington International Chorus.  Our regular rehearsals begin Tuesday September 9th from 7-9 at United Church on the corner of 20th and G Sts NW.  As you face the church, walk up the side driveway and enter the education building in the back.  We will either be in the main church or upstairs in the second floor choir room.

We do not hold auditions, so come and sing with us and see if we are the right chorus for you.  This fall we have a new conductor, Joshua Brown, who has a degree in music education and has performed as a bass soloist in many concerts in this area.  We are looking forward to a season in which we focus on our musical sound and improvement in our voices.

The winter concert will be on Friday, Dec. 16th at 7 pm.

If you have questions, please call the chorus President/Administrator, Caroline Sparks at 202-236-3743.

Raise up America - Flag Day event June 14th

Our Washington International Chorus will be singing with many other choruses on the national Mall on Flag Day June 14th in the tribute for the 200th Anniversary of the Star-Spangled Banner.  The event includes a dress rehearsal in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall.  The event on the Mall is from 2:30-4:30 in front of the National Museum of American History.  It will be televised live on ESPN 3 channel.  At 4 pm when the massed chorus sings the National Anthem, people all over America are asked to stand and sing it wherever they are.

This is our last event this season and then we break until the second week of September.  We welcome new members in the fall.

A Star Spangeled Concert

The Washington International Chorus presents a spring concert of songs by American composers on Friday, May 16th at 7:30 pm at the United Church of Christ on the corner of 20th and G Sts NW, Washington, DC. Since this year is the 200th anniversary of the Star-Spangled Banner and the chorus is participating in the Flag Day event "Voices of Our Nation" on June 14th, we decided to present a program of all American songs as well as a few patriotic numbers.

A reception follows the concert in Cooper Lounge at the church.  Admission is free but contributions are, of course, welcomed.

The "Voices of Our Nation" event will be on the National Mall on Flag Day June 14th in the afternoon with choruses from all over American participating.  The performance will be conducted by Eric Whitaker whose virtual choirs can be seen on Youtube.  The event will be televised nationally and is sponsored by the Smithsonian Institution, the Kennedy Center and Chorus America.
