The chorus will rehearse on Tuesday Jan 28th as usual at 7 pm at the United Church in spite of the cold weather. If you need parking, there is a visitor lot for GW on I st between 20th and 21st Sts - they will charge for parking but it can keep you from driving around looking for a space in the cold.
Rehearsals began again on January 14th and will continue through June 14, 2014. We will be singing in the finale with other choruses as the ending event of the national Chorus American/Kennedy Center conference from June 11-14. We hope new members will join us so that they can sing with us in this event. Because the event corresponds to the 200th anniversary of the Star-spangled banner, we are sure to sing several patriotic songs. Stand-by for which pieces we shall be singing.
Due to the June 14th event, our spring concert will have a theme of American composers. So far, we will sing Samuel Barber, Aaron Copeland, William Gillings, Leonard Bernstein, Randall Thompson and George Gerschwin selections but we are asking chorus members to suggest others. It would be nice to sing songs of diversity, songs written by immigrants to the US, and songs representing different stages of development of the U.S. All suggestions welcome for the next few weeks.
The Washington International Chorus is a non-auditioned chorus and we welcome new singers. Just come to a rehearsal on any Tuesday evening from 7-9 at the United Church at the corner of 20th and G Sts NW. near The George Washington University. Metro stops would be Foggy Bottom or Farragut West. Once you get to that corner, as you face the church, walk up the driveway on the left of the church and enter the education building at the rear of the church. We rehearse in the choir room on the second floor.
