"Of Poets and Composers" concert May 4, 2013

The Washington International Chous spring concert, Of Poets and Composers" is Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 7:30 pm in The United Church at the corner of 20th and G Sts. NW in Washington DC. Selections include poems by Thomas Campion, William Shakespeare, Jean Racine, Goethe, John Clare, e.e. cummings, Sara Teasdale, Garcia Lorca, James Agee and Louise Bogan. Composers include Robert Schumann, Samuel Barber, Benjamin Britten, Rene Clausen, David Dickau, Alec Rowley, F. Vila, and others.

A reception will be held in the church's social lounge after the concert. Donations of $15 or more are suggested.

We welcome new members to come to rehearsals. Auditions are not required although some past singing experience is certainly appreciated. We rehearse on Tuesday evenings from 7-9 at the United Church at 20th and G Sts NW. Rehearsals will continue through the end of May 2013 before we break for the summer.

First rehearsal in 2013

Rehearals begin again on Tuesday, January 8th at 7 pm for the spring concert season. We reconvene at the United Church at the corner of 20th and G Sts NW. New people are welcome to come to a rehearsal. If you have questions, call the administrator at 202-236-3743. No audition needed. We are already preparing for our spring concert of poetry set for choral presentation. We have some beautiful pieces and may still add a few more.

Holiday Concert is Friday November 30th

The Washington International Chorus is holding our winter concert this Friday evening at 7:30 at the United Church at 20th and G Sts NW in Washington DC. We shall sing with the church's choir directed by David Montgomery. The concert conductor is Dimitar Nikolov with Andrew Welch as accompanist. Featured works are:

Saint-Saen's Christmas Oratorio

Daniel Pinkham's Christmas Cantata

We shall also sing carols in German, Bulgarian, Latin, English and Spanish. As is our tradition, the concert includes singing carols with the audience participating. A reception follows in the church's social hall.

The concert is free although we always are grateful for donations to support the chorus. Children are welcome.

Directions: Nearest metros are Foggy Bottom or Farragut North. Street parking is limited. There is an accesible driveway with ramp for handicap access.

The Washington International Chorus continues rehearsals on Tuesday evenings in December and begins preparing for our spring concert. We are a non-auditioned chorus so come and see if you want to join us. Our theme for the spring concert is poetry that has been prepared for choral singing. Our emphasis, as always, is classical pieces from various time periods sung in the original languages.

We have no rehearsal on Tuesdy December 4th but we shall rehearse on December 11th and 18th and take a break for the Christmas holidays until the second Tuesday in January. May 12th Spring Concert An evening of Opera Choruses

The Washington International Chorus presents "Songs of Love and Bondage", an evening of famous opera choruses on Saturday, May 12th, 7:30 pm with a wine and dessert reception to follow.

Event is at the First Congregational Church of Christ at 945 G St. NW (corner of 10th and G Sts). This church is a beautiful, award winning, glass and wood office building that recently reopened. It is one block from either Metro center or Gallery place metros. Street parking also available.

Rehearsals for our spring concert began Jan. 10th. We will sing opera choruses at a gala concert and fundraiser the first week of May. If you have always wanted to sing opera - here's your chance!!

Congratulations to everybody for the outstanding concert last Friday. We will sing Alleluia on Saturday, Dec. 24th at 5pm. Lets get together at 4:15 in the choir room to warm up and rehearse the song.

Holiday concert Dec. 16, 2011

The Washington International Chorus, joined by the United Church of Washington DC Choir, and members of the Bowie, MD Unity Church of Light choir, presents its holiday Concert on Friday, December 16th at 7:30 pm. In addition to holiday songs and carols, the featured work is Navidad Nuestra by Argentinian composer Ariel Ramirez.

The concert is free and is followed by a reception at the church.

The church is located at the corner of 20th and G Sts NW. Nearest metro stops are Foggy Bottom or Farragut West. Parking is limited but there are several nearby parking lots at GW University on H and I Streets between 21st and 22nd Sts.

Holiday concerts

The Washington International Chorus will sing a holiday concert with the Unity Church of Light in Bowie Md on Sunday December 4, 2011 at 1 pm.

Directions: The concert is at the community center on 3501 Moylan Dr., Bowie, MD. From Hwy 50 E. toward Annapolis, exit on Hwy 197 and go left at the top of the exit (toward Bowie). On Hwy 450 turn right and go to a left on Moylan Dr. The YMCA community center will be on the right. There is plenty of parking. Children welcome.
